The
Matrix Early Intervention is designed to:
¨

FAMILIES DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF THE PRESENTING DRUG AND/OR ALCOHOL
PROBLEM(S)
¨
GIVE INDIVIDUALS HELP IN DETERMINING
THE NEED FOR FURTHER TREATMENT
¨

POTENTIAL RISKS OF CONTINUED DRUG AND/OR ALCOHOL USE
¨
DETERMINE THE NEED FOR AND A
PLAN FOR CHANGE.
There is
a substantial body of research literature indicating that some substance
abusers respond very positively to brief, focused treatment episodes.
While not recommended in lieu of longer-term treatment, this intervention
is particularly useful for helping individuals and those around them
determine the nature and extent of a non-apparent problem. It is also
useful for giving guidance to clients who are determining a plan for
change.
