MATRIX MODEL
TRAINING
Clinical Trainings
on the Evidence-Based Matrix Model of Intensive Outpatient Treatment

Two-Day Onsite American Indian /

Alaskan Native Trainings

Participants in this training
will be able to:

The Matrix approach emphasizes the use of outpatient techniques. Treatments focus on lifestyle changes, training in relapse prevention, education about dependencies, and family involvement.

The client handouts from the Matrix Model program materials have recently been adapted to be more relevant to the very diverse tribes and individuals that make up the American Indian population. It is hoped that in responding to the needs of this target population, we have created a set of materials that are more culturally relevant to an even wider group of American Indian, Alaskan Native, and First Nation communities across the continent.

This two-day workshop includes a didactic overview of the elements that comprise the Matrix Model with an emphasis on topics specific to using the American Indian / Alaskan Native Matrix Manual handouts.

  • Describe the various elements that comprise the Matrix Model.
  • Describe how the Matrix Model differs from other types of substance abuse and chemical dependency treatments.
  • Describe the usefulness of the Matrix format of cognitive behavioral manualized treatment with difficult and complex populations, such as people with stimulant use disorders.
  • Incorporate elements of the Matrix Model into existing treatment programs.
