If you’ve ever wondered or thought you may have an alcohol or drug problem, the quick self-assessment questions below can help you determine if you should talk with a professional substance abuse counselor.
1. Have you ever felt you should CUT DOWN on your drinking or drug use?
2. Have people ANNOYED you by criticizing or complaining about your drinking or drug use?
3. Have you ever felt bad or GUILTY about your drinking or drug use?
4. Have you ever had a drink or drug in the morning (EYE OPENER) to steady your nerves or to
get rid of a hangover?
1 “Yes” answer indicates a possible problem.
2-4 “Yes” answers indicate a likely problem.
Those who answered “No” to all of the above questions but have drinking or drug-related problems with others in their lives also are encouraged to get a professional assessment.
